SALT MELTS

Salt Melt Solidification and Granulation on KAISER Cooling Belt Systems

Reliable Solidification Solutions for High-Temperature and Corrosive Inorganic Melts

Inorganic salt melts belong to the most demanding product groups in solidification technology. Their high melting points, corrosive properties, and hygroscopic behavior require robust mechanical design, precise temperature control, and carefully selected materials.

KAISER provides advanced cooling belt systems specifically engineered to meet these challenges—ensuring stable operation, long equipment lifetime, and consistently high product quality.

Applications & Processing Concepts

KAISER cooling belt systems are used worldwide for the solidification of a wide range of inorganic salts. Depending on the melt properties, either a film solidification (flakes) or a pastillation process is applied.

Most salts are mostly processed as a uniform molten film on the cooling belt with high capacities achievable. After controlled crystallization, the solid layer is reduced to the required particle size by an integrated crusher. For smaller quantities the pastillation process with KAISER Rollosizer is suitable.

For Caustic Soda (NaOH) and Caustic Potash (KOH), a dedicated pastillation process is used. The melt is fed as droplets onto the cooling belt via a special version of the ZN system, specifically designed for these extreme conditions.

Product Portfolio

Aluminium Sulphate

Aluminium sulphate is processed using a special film application unit that mixes a defined amount of fine seed particles into the melt immediately before feeding. These crystals initiate instant crystallization on the cooling belt.

A mist applicator supplies crystal water, ensuring solidification occurs over the belt length till the discharge end. From there a slow-running maturation belt provides sufficient residence time for the flakes to develop their final crystal structure before entering the downstream hammer mill.

KAISER provides:

  • Proven process know-how from recent industrial installations, including specialized product feeders
  • Downstream maturation belt for controlled crystallization
  • Integrated hammer mill for precise and guaranteed particle size distribution
  • Excellent product uniformity for water treatment and paper industry applications
